2Loïs VFriday 15th April 2011 at 18:29I just loved this trailer ! To me it totally corresponds to the atmosphere of the novel : dark, gloomy, opressive, strange. The music has an important place and helps creating all this effects. It really makes my want to watch an adaptation of the 5th Child as a movie, it would be so great ! It's true that the vision of Ben showed as the monster is quite imposed, but in the book I just think it's the same ! Indeed, we have most of the time Harriet's point of view, and I think that if someone wanted to realise this movie, it would be important to respect that. And on the other hand the child choosen doesn't really look like a monster, maybe it's to show that he's just a lonely child after all. Anyway, great video, I just totally liked it, I'm just disappointed the movie doesn't exist !

It's a trailer who give us the feeling to absolutly watch the film ! I hope there will have a movie soon ... to know if the book is really the same with the film !
6Claire CFriday 15th April 2011 at 22:56Hey everybody.
When I did this trailer I was very excating and I hoped you like it !
I just want to add something... I don't really think that Ben is the monster but, during my first reading, I mean in seemingly, we can easily think that Ben is a monster because he doesn't talk, he kills animal and he's really strange. On the trailer, it's the idea I wanted to represent. Everything you said it's true Mr J, and I agree with many things but the last picture when "Ben" look at the distance in the car... Personally, I see a little boy really dissapointed and I wanted to play with this picture, to put on the light the fact that Ben, beyond appearances, is not a Monster.
A trailer don't show everything of the movie... That's why I chose just one side of the book.
7Mr.JFriday 15th April 2011 at 23:00I agree with you , It's a trailer which is suming up really good the book but i feel disappointed as Ben when i'm watching him and his unhapiness ... I see how he's disturbed by the fact that everybody reject him and i try to imagine what are his feelings. Sure, it's not nice and i have pity ... Do you feel Pity ?!
8Claire CFriday 15th April 2011 at 23:17Yeah of course ! But... more when I reading the book. Here, on the trailer, it's just the picture at the end which intrigued me. Because we just see a little boy, certainly rejected by the others even if, at first sight, he looks like a monster.
Thanks for watching ;)
9Marine VSaturday 16th April 2011 at 10:35If such a trailer could really exist, I would watch the movie at once! Seriously, I totally agree with the others Claire, you made an excellent job:the Victorian house(which reminds me the atmosphere of Amityville actually), a begining which is submerged by "happiness" and the stereotype of the perfect family,Ben who seems diferent, Harriet scared by her son...all the main elements are well gathered together and besides, the atmosphere that Harry Potter's trailer music conveys totally corresponds with the idea I had of the novel, with an brillant synchronization with actions'speed. However, as said Mr.J ,your trailer seems to stress on the pathetic side of Ben, and of course he isn't a monster, but imagine that you are the realisator of The Fifth Child's movie, which aspect will you choose in the whole movie?Because the novel represents Hariett's point of view,so as to upset the reader and make us think about the "rational" reasons of Ben's behaviour,it calls everything in question(especially Harriet's behaviour with the foetus).Well, I don't know,I 've just the feeling that the trailer is perfect except that I did'n't find again the doubt I felt reading the book:what about others'monstrous side?Harriet and David's one?Grandparents'one? But it's just the trailer, I'm sure that the movie will show us all these ambigous elements!
Last question:can you explain me the picture of the Angel's statue at the end? What does it embody? Once again: good job!
10Claire CSaturday 16th April 2011 at 11:12If the fifth child will shoot, I think that the realisator will have a lot of work ! That's why I just did the trailer But... If I was the realisator, I certainly wanted to show the two sides because that's why the book is interresting. But it's so hard !
For the picture of Angel's statue... Just before there is the "institution" and in this passage on the book it's so impressive and we can easily thinking at the hell so I wanted to show the constrast between the institution and the real personnality of Ben who is not a monster, a devil, a extraterrestrial or whatever. So, I put this picture of angel... But, just after, we can see an animal who is running and a knife. I know that Ben probably suffocate the animal but the idea I wanted to show is : Ben an Angel or a Monster ? Just like in the book.
Do you see that ?
Thanks for your congrtulations :)
11Marine VSaturday 16th April 2011 at 12:23I won't say that Ben is an Angel neither, or maybe more a damned angel?Like an innocent child corrupted by an Evil family? I think it can be an interesting metaphore for his situation.Because all the newborn are innocent, Harriet's conception is hard to believe for me.Ben can't be a monster since he is a foetus,an alien sent from an another planet, she just made him take an Evil way by thinking that! So we can see him like a lost Angel, who doesn't know the border between Good and Bad.Actually I don't think that things are all white or black, Doris Lessing allows us to see the world in grey...
12Sonia BouhlelSaturday 30th April 2011 at 18:00Not bad, looks like a horror movie, the sound accentuates the horror. I found the big house, children playing together. However, Ben does not look so monstrous as that. Furthermore, we see neither David nor Dorothy, which are very important characters.
13Amel.fMonday 23rd May 2011 at 20:39although it's a great trailer i don't really recognize the elements of the book. yes there is the big mansion with all the happy family, but the Ben in this does not seems to the one in the book. i magine him more stonger physically but also a strong "aura". less pretty more strange. and i agree with sonia; we did not see dorothy and david but maybe it was made on purpose
anyway it's a great job
To my mind, your trailer is very interesting and also original. Indeed I think that it depict very well and very clearly the story of the Fifth Child. Good job ;)

It's really strange to watch the trailer of a novel we are reading !
I didn't imagine Ben like that. I thought he was biggest, and not with blue eyes but green too ... I can find every part of the novel : large victorian house, "perfect children who are playing" . There is a strange sound " Harry Potter's trailer .. and it reign a strange atomsphere. At 30 sec, images become really dark. Ben directly appears as a "monster" . The person whp's watching the trailer hasn't the choice. HE IS a monster, it's a fact. The images are violent too ( knife at the end). It's not really happy. Ben is everytime alone, he's seen as a strange child but at 53' ( window ) and 56' ( bed ) , he's just a poor rejected boy. Xhen i'm watching the trailer, i feel pity for this Boy. He never ask something and he's rejected by everybody. Even if Ben doesn't look like a monster as he's describing in the novel, he represents a poor child with a lack of happiness in the trailer. Indeed, we had to see Ben on this side ..
